It’s the service of registering shares under the names of their respective owners. The registrar is the institution hired by the stock issuer to carry out, in addition to the aforementioned registry, the updating, coordinating of corporate events, and payment of dividends and interest on own capital, as well as providing services to shareholders.

Shares under custody at a brokerage are available for immediate trading in stock markets. You can sell them whenever you need to or when you identify a good opportunity.

Meanwhile, shares under custody of a registrar need to be transferred to a brokerage to be traded on stock markets. We reiterate that trading can only take place after the request to transfer shareholding custody is completed. To learn more about the process of transferring custody, see the question below.

The first step is to register with a brokerage.

Next, you should fill out a form called an OTA (Order to Transfer Shares).

Print this out, sign it and notarize it, and send it, accompanied by a notarized copy of your personal documents (RG and CPF) and recent proof of residence (issued within the last 60 days at most) to the brokerage where you are a client.

For your ease, you can find this form at the Itaú Brokerage site (www.itaucorretora.com.br). Just enter the “Profile” menu and click on “Transfer of custody from registrar to Itaú Brokerage” located on the lower right of the screen.

If you are an Itaú client you can register at Itaú Brokerage quickly and easily by just entering your bank branch number and account number at the top of the website’s homepage and follow the instructions step-by-step.

If you are not an Itaú client you can still register with Itaú Brokerage; select the tab Non-Account Holder > I wish to register, and follow the steps. The process is simple and can be completed online.

When you finish your registration, enter the “Profile” menu and click on “Transfer of custody from registrar to Itaú Brokerage” located in the lower right.

Verify that your registration with the registrar is correct and up to date.

You can consult the most important information about your shares directly online, regardless of whether the custody of those shares is with a registrar or with a brokerage.

In addition to share holdings, statements detailing share transactions, payment notices, income statements, and underwriting bulletins are also available.

If you are an Itaú client, access your account and, in the Investments menu, look for Shares Registered by Itaú.

If you are not an Itaú client, consultations can be carried out via the Itaú Brokerage site (www.itaucorretora.com.br). Access the “Non-client” tab and click on “I want to register.”  Then just follow the step-by-step instructions and, upon completion, you will be able to view your holdings.

The amounts will be credited to the account indicated in your registration. If the company whose shares you own paid dividends and/or interest on capital and you didn’t receive payment, you should update your registration as soon as possible. It’s important that you keep your data up-to-date because unclaimed proceeds expire after 3 years, starting from the date on which they were made available.

Income taxes, in the case of interest on own capital, are automatically withheld or discounted upon payment, while for dividends no income tax is charged.

You should head to any Itaú branch and present the subscriptionbulletin that was sent via mail. You can also consult and print out the bulletin via internet.

If you are an Itaú client, you merely need to access your account.

If you are not an Itaú client, you can view the bulletin via the Itaú Brokerage site (www.itaucorretora.com.br).
